2023 Smog Check Statistics

​One of the most common questions we get asked - "what are the chances my vehicle will pass the smog test?"

​On an average; across our locations, the pass rate is 88%.  However, the age of a vehicle is one of the key determining factors of whether or not a vehicle passes the smog test.  We analyzed our entire 2017 data; with approximately 40,000 vehicles - and the table to the right are our findings on Pass/Fail by age of the vehicle.

"I have a car with over 100,000 miles on it.  Will I pass the smog check?"

Fun Fact - the vehicle data we analyzed, collectively represents over 5 Billion miles driven!  The average miles driven by a vehicle that we smog is ~ 130,000.  To answer the above question, your vehicle with over 100,000 miles is the norm; and note again, our overall pass rate is 88%.
Furthermore:

• The average model year of a vehicle that we test is 2005 i.e. age of 12 years
• 14% of the vehicles we test are model year 1999 and older i.e. age of 18+ years

Guidance on Wait Times at our smog test stations

Across our smog centers, we maintain adequate staffing to ensure minimal to no wait times.  However, we do see an increased volume of customers during lunch times.  In addition:

• Monday, Friday and especially Saturday are our busiest days
• Tuesday, Wednesday and especially Thursday are our slowest days

As a business we cannot possibly guarantee zero wait time.  But we do understand our customers' time is precious.  Least wait times guidance - Thursdays, mid-morning and mid-afternoon.
